The Way We Were...

We recently donated £100 to the Ryton on Dunsmore History Group for help with their re-enactment of the Christmas day truce on Saturday 13th September at St Leonards Church. The re-enactment of the famous football match took part on a heritage day for the The Way We Were Ryton 1914 exhibition.

Ryton on Dunsmore History Group and St Leonards Church successfully ran the re-enactment on a beautiful September afternoon on the Recreation Ground Featherstone Crescent. ‘Kick off’ was at 3pm and local supporter John Loudon refereed all participants in a ‘Silent Night’ sing along that echoed sentiments in 1914 Christmas Day truce. Gifts were exchanged and after a light hearted kick about the whistle blew for a 2 minutes silence. Refreshments were supplied afterwards in the church centre, curtesy of our donation and visitors were also able to learn more about the range of events and activities organised to explore and commemorate the changes that have taken place in the village since 1914.
